Expose Weakness

Expose Weakness
It is true that different classes receive different benefits from attack power. It comes down to a lot of variables. Someone with 34% crit will gain more from 200AP than someone with 33% crit for example. You also have to deal with the fact that arcane shot and sinister strike have different AP coefficients and mechanics. Even variables such as independent weapon speed and availability of windfury have an effect on how much DPS benefit you will give to your raid.

The 30% mark in the equation is an average taking the above into account. There is no way to get an exact figure, but this will give a general idea. The calculation also uses an 85% average uptime. Personally I have over 50% crit in raids and have a higher uptime but 100% is literally impossible. It is in no way perfect and can spike as much as 700+/- dps away from the calculated score.

A few last things that are worth remembering. Feral druids and tanks will gain TPS from EW as well as a small DPS increase. Also when dealing with iHM calculations, hunters are removed from the equations as they get the 440AP whether it is talented or not.

  • Melee player dps = 30% (0.30)
  • Melee pet dps = 15% (0.15)
  • Tanks = 5% (0.05)

Given that EW is 85% uptime (Using an average boss scenario with 35% crit)

EWap Benefit Calculation.
(Agility/4)*0.85 = EWap

EWap*0.30*#Melee = a
EWap*0.15*#Pets = b
EWap*0.05*#Tanks = c
a+b+c = Final EW dps

Working Example
We usually recommend close to 650-700 Agility before respec. The following example uses that score in a 10 man environment (4 melee DPS) and compares it to TSA. This example excludes tanks and pets.

Given that TSA is 100% uptime
Given that EW is 85% uptime

EW
(700/4)*0.85 = 148.75

DPS Average in 10mans. (4 melee dps).

TSA
125*0.30*4 = 150dps

600 EW
148.75*0.30*4 = 178.5dps

Zeherah’s Expose Weakness Calculator
Zeherah’s EW calculator is far more indepth than my own and will give you a more exact figure but it is also prone to the same fluctuations. They both come out with very similar numbers so I leave it up to you.

It can be found here.

Alumatine’s EW Calculations with 1200
Now to look at my ~ raid buffed agi in an average Reckoning raid.

  • Hunter x3
  • Rogue x1
  • Ret Paladin x1
  • DPS Warrior x2
  • Feral Druid x1
  • Enh Shaman x1
  • Hunter Pet x3
  • Prot tanks x2

Given that EW is 85% uptime

(1200/4)*0.85 = 255

DPS Average in 25mans (9+3+2 melee dps).

1200 EW
255*0.30*9 = ~688dps
255*0.15*3 = ~115dps
255*0.05*2 = ~25dps
Total = 828dps
For the record, the total on Zeherah’s Calculator comes out at ~819

110 iHM
110*0.3*6 = 198dps
110*0.15*3 = ~49dps
110*0.05*2 = 11dps
Total = 258dps

Total = 1086dps
